Creative Sunday Practice #1

Sundays are often for doing absolutely nothing.

And that’s exactly why they’re perfect for doing something creative.

I believe that even a few minutes spent immersed in creativity on Sunday can supercharge your whole week. That’s why I started a new ritual called Creative Sunday Practice. It’s a series of simple, fun exercises to help you train your eye, boost your creativity, and rediscover everyday objects through your smartphone camera.

Let’s start with something you already have: towels.

Yes, those soft, ordinary things hanging in your bathroom can become your next creative photography subject. Think of them as fabric sculptures waiting for direction.

Try folding or rolling them into shapes, maybe an ice cream cone, a wave, or a mountain range. Play with shadows, textures, and light coming through your bathroom window. You can even bring in color by mixing towels of different shades.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s to see differently to remind your brain that creativity isn’t about exotic locations or expensive equipment. It’s about what you do with what’s right in front of you.

So grab your phone, find a towel, and give it a new identity for a few minutes. Then, next Sunday, we’ll move on to something else.

Your creativity doesn’t need a day off. It just needs a towel.

P.S. To get you started, I’m sharing a few of my own towel phone photos. There are some finished shots and a couple of behind-the-scenes frames. Feel free to borrow (steal!) the idea.

Try imagining your towels as colorful ice cream cones. Vanilla, blueberry, chocolate... whatever "flavors" you have at home. Roll them, fold them, layer colors, and play with light and angles. Anything goes! And don't worry if it doesn't look perfect. Simply notice what happens when you slow down and look closer through your phone camera lens.

Let's see what beauty hides in plain sight for you this Sunday! 🤳
