GENERAL

In the offline world, I hosted the most reviewed photography class on Airbnb Experiences in Berlin, Germany, which I called 'Smartphones Are Not For Calling'.
But when the global pandemic hit the globe in 2020 and in-person meetings were no longer allowed, I had to find another way to get creative.
Staying at home to flatten the curve, I started taking pictures of random things with my smartphone every day. This #whenimathomechallenge was not only a very inspiring & fun activity for 50 consecutive days, but it made me develop new inspiring techniques to boost creativity.
And so, I decided to try to ignite the creativity of remote teams stuck in home offices around the globe and designed my first hands-on online workshop, which I published on Airbnb Online Experiences. -
‘Smartphones Are Not For Calling’ offers online workshops that are flexible, engaging, and designed to fit into your team’s schedule. You can expect interactive learning experiences that make mastering smartphone photography fun and accessible from anywhere.
-
Most team building revolves around trivia or quizzes. I focus on a shared hands-on experience: smartphone photography.
During the session, I share a live feed directly from my iPhone screen, taking your team step-by-step through my exact creative workflow. You’ll see in real-time how to get professional-looking results out of the camera you already carry in your pocket. Everyone grabs a few random items from their desk — a coffee mug, a houseplant, a pen — and tries the techniques right then and there. It’s like a quick creative workout where everyone feels like an artist, even if they don't consider themselves "creative."

I share the live feed from my iPhone camera and take you through my workflow step by step. You see exactly what I’m doing and why. Then you try it yourself with small things you can grab from your desk: a mug, a plant, a pen, whatever’s around. Everything is clear and encouraging. It’s not a competition. We’re just doing a creative workout together.

Any team. New or established, in one office or across continents. You don’t need a particular industry or skill. All you need is a smartphone and a bit of curiosity.

TEAM BUILDING
-
Totally fair. Most of us have been dragged into a forced icebreaker at some point. This isn’t that. There’s no pressure to share anything personal, no competing, and nobody gets put on the spot. You just pick up your phone and make some photos together. Skeptics tend to surprise themselves, and they’re often the ones who get most into it.
-
That’s the goal. Nobody has to perform or be good at anything. It’s relaxed, a bit playful, and it feels more like a creative break than a corporate event.
-
Here’s my secret: the real team bonding actually happens after the workshop is over!
During the session, team members discover shared passions — maybe two colleagues on opposite sides of the world realize they both love taking pictures of trees, street architecture, or strangers' dogs. I call this finding your "photo mates."
After our session, teams keep the energy going by sharing their photos in Slack or Teams, giving each other feedback, and staying connected over a shared interest long after the call ends.
-
Yes, ‘Smartphones Are Not For Calling’ offers customizable workshops tailored to meet the specific needs and interests of your team. Whether you’re focusing on a particular aspect of smartphone photography or want a broader overview, I can adapt my virtual sessions to suit your goals.
-
The team spirit lives on even after meetings are over! As the group session wraps up, a host encourages everyone to share their top photos from the event in a private online album. It's a comfortable space to continue learning and growing together.
Attendees love joining the album to reflect on the session's highlights, share positive reactions, receive insightful feedback, and get answers to any lingering questions.
Each team's shared album remains active for an unlimited period of time, ensuring ongoing, on-demand support for any smartphone photography challenges that may arise in the future. -
