Creative Sunday Practice #3

If you’ve never heard anyone react to your smartphone photos with a genuine “Mamma mia!” it might be time to start practicing regularly and training your eye.

That’s exactly what my Creative Sunday Practice ritual is for. Every week, I share a simple creative prompt designed to help you practice mobile photography at home and keep your creativity flowing with just a few minutes of playful focus.

Last week, we looked at coat hangers with a new sense of curiosity. This time, we’re heading to the kitchen and channeling our inner Italian, because this Sunday’s theme is… pasta.

Why Pasta?

Because it’s familiar, fun, and surprisingly photogenic. There’s an entire world of texture, symmetry, and visual rhythm hidden in a plate (or bag) of spaghetti, penne, tagliatelle (or whatever you have on your shelf).

Try zooming in on the curls and twirls, capturing how light reflects off cooked noodles, or arranging raw pasta into clean geometric patterns. Notice how the sauce drapes over each strand, or if you’re in the mood for something extra try creating a “pasta portrait” of yourself (yes, really).

My Pasta Experiments

To get your imagination started, here are a few iPhone photos from my kitchen. I even tried to recreate a guitar out of spaghetti strings and experimented with a new haircut just to see what kind of shots I could get.

You can start by recreating some of these ideas as a warm-up, then let your creativity take over. Often, one experiment sparks the next, and before you know it, you’ve created something totally unique.

Why It Matters

This practice isn’t about perfection or fancy gear. It’s about staying curious, noticing beauty in ordinary things, and building a creative routine that sharpens your eye week after week.

So grab your phone, roll up your sleeves, and turn a simple kitchen staple into your next set of creative images.

Have fun exploring! And come back next Sunday for a new challenge.
